Plan the perfect 2026 Mother’s Day getaway in Clarion County, PA. Enjoy the STOL competition, Wine Walk, and Cook Forest hikes— just a short drive from Pittsburgh!

This May, our itinerary balances adrenaline and relaxation. From the 12th Annual Cheers, Beers, & Wine Walk on Main Street to wildflower hikes during Basecamp to Trails Week, we’ve curated the ultimate guide to the area’s best local flavors, stays, and outdoor adventures. Pack your bags for a Clarion County getaway that mom (and the whole family) will always remember.

Day 1: Friday – Propellers & Pours

Afternoon: Precision in the Air

Once you’ve settled in, kick off your weekend at the Clarion County Airport (AXQ). This isn’t just a landing strip; it’s the stage for the Appalachian Mountain STOL (short takeoff and landing) competition. Arriving Friday gives you a “backstage pass” to watch pilots take practice runs, showcasing the power and precision required for backcountry flying.

Evening: The 12th Annual Cheers, Beers, & Wine Walk

Treat mom to an evening of local flavor on Clarion’s Main Street. With over 20 craft beverage vendors stationed throughout the downtown district, it’s the ultimate way to toast to the weekend. If you’re interested in a creative mix of culture and the coniferous, stop by the Sawmill Center for the Arts at 6pm in Cook Forest State Park for their Spring Dance Showcase before or after you taste test spirits in Clarion.

Shop Local

While walking between wine & brews tasting stations, stop into Dan Smith’s Candy & Gifts to pick up a Mother’s Day sweet treat, find a hidden gem at Main Street Emporium, or browse the curated collections at The Fulmer HouseDeja-Me on MainF.L. Crooks & Co, and Sparrow Books

Eat Local

Clarion has restaurants for every craving. Hot dog might be in the name, but don’t be fooled by Daddy’s Main Street Hot Dog ! They have a rotating menu of global dishes alongside their regular go-to comfort foods. If you’re looking for finger food, grab a slice from the Captain Loomis, fan-favorite wings from Toby Hill Bar and Grillor a sandwich from Bob’s Sub. While testing out drinks, stop by Clarion River Brewing Company for a sit-down dinner.

Day 2: Saturday – Competition & Creations

Morning: Feast & Flights

Start your Saturday with breakfast at the County Seat or Liberty House before heading back to the airfield. The STOL Competition officially begins today (10AM), featuring high-stakes takeoffs, food trucks, and paper airplane races for the kids.

Afternoon: Nourish Plants & Nurture Mom

For a hands-on Mother’s Day memory, head to Zacherl’s Farm Market & Greenhouse (10 AM – 2 PM). Their Moms & Mimosas event lets you sip a refreshing drink while building a custom hanging planter or potted arrangement—a living souvenir of your trip. For those looking for ultimate relaxation, sound bath experiences are available with the Hush & Hum Meditation Center, featuring crystal and Himalayan singing bowls, between 1:30 and 2:30pm.

For the more adventurous ones, gear up at the Rustic Acres RV & Campground Resort for the Basecamp to Trails Week kickoff party (11AM – 2PM). Pick up your official stamp book and get ready to explore the vast trail networks of the Allegheny region.

Evening: Reflect & Restore Over Dinner

After an eventful day, head out to any one of our delicious restaurants and reflect on the day’s adventures. Stop for dinner at the Pizza Pub, Cozumel Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, or Sweet Basil. Still full from lunch? Have a beer and a light bite at Lost in the Wilds Brewing.

Day 3: Sunday – Mother’s Day Relaxation

Morning: Pampering & Pastries

Whether it’s a massage at Balanced Buddha Spa & Wellness, a detox at Himalayan Salt & Body, or a treatment at Simply Skin Medical Spa, Clarion’s wellness scene is the perfect antidote to a busy work week.

Afternoon: Into the Forest

Take the short 20-minute drive to Cook Forest State Park, often called the Ancient Forest for its towering pines that are hundreds of years old. Sign up ahead of time for Hums for Mums, hosted by Hush & Hum, to take a reflective afternoon pause with Himalayan singing bowls before continuing on with your adventures!

Culture

Visit the Sawmill Center for the Arts and Dear Heart Medicinals & Mercantile to check out antiques, handmade decor, jewelry, and artisan gifts from the PA Wilds.

Adventure

Walk the easy access trails along the Clarion River or climb the Fire Tower for a panoramic view of the budding May treeline.

End the day with a celebratory dinner. If you’re staying near the forest, the Forest Nook Restaurant offers rotating gourmet desserts and a signature limoncello. If you’re heading back toward town, look for Mother’s Day specials featuring locally sourced ingredients.
