How It All Began
Knox was once known as “Edenburg.” Due to the Oil Boom, the town responded by building more hotels, saloons, and stores, which led to its growth. It earned its true place on the map when the Knox Glass Bottle Company opened in 1917.
Horsethief Capital of the World
The town is now known as the “Horsethief Capital of the World” and its subsequent Horsethief Days – a week-long festival in August recalling this tiny town’s past. It all began with Sebastian “Boss” Buck, who engineered a grand scheme to steal horses and sell back to different owners their very horses. It was a convoluted way to make a quick buck (fitting for his last name). This wasn’t a small operation; he even did this in the south, as well as in Pennsylvania.
